Daryl Lee Montague, 81, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at the Pomona United Methodist Church. The family is set to receive friends 9:30 a.m. to the service time Thursday. Burial with U.S. Army military honors will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona.

He was born Aug. 15, 1931, the son of Merle and Vera Shipps Montague.

Daryl lived in Wichita for several years, but lived most of his life in the Pomona area.

He graduated from Pomona High School in 1949 and then from the Wichita Business College.  

He worked for Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Bennett Creamery in Ottawa and he retired from the Con-Tel Telephone Company.

He was a member of the Pomona United Methodist Church where he had been treasurer and on the trustees board. He was a member of the Lions Club, was a charter member of the West Franklin Senior Citizens, served on the Pomona school board and with the Pomona Township as treasurer, the Mid-America Nutrition Board and the Area Agency on Aging Board. He was a member of the Night Crawlers Camping Club and Chippewa Sams Camping Club.

Daryl was united in marriage to Cynthia Miller July 22, 1959, in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Duane and Max Montague.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia, of the home; his two sons, Mark Montague (Tonia), Meriden, and Brian Montague (Sharon), Salina; his brother, Rex Montague, Pomona; and five grandchildren, Mark, Kimberly, Brian, Benjamin and Jennifer.
