Lauren Y. Gaddis, 84, Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa.

Cremation is planned with memorial services set for 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at Princeton United Methodist Church. Private family inurnment is planned for Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas.

Lauren was born Saturday, July 19, 1930, in Ottawa, the son of Lauren Otis and Sunshine (Young) Gaddis.

He considered himself to be a lifelong Ottawa resident.

He graduated from Princeton High School with the Class of 1948, and continued his education at Ottawa University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education; and from Emporia State University with a master’s degree.

Lauren married Evelyn June Bones June 14, 1953, at Princeton. She survives of the home after 61 years of marriage.

Other survivors include his four children, Mark Gaddis and wife, Brandy, Andover, Michael Gaddis and wife, Kayleen, Claflin, Marlon Gaddis, Hays, and Meleah Schrepel and husband, Mark, Goddard; two brothers, John Gaddis, Overland Park, and DeLoss Gaddis, Ottawa; sister, Elaine Oakleaf and husband, John, Effingham; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lauren worked most of his life as a school administrator, retiring in 1984. He served in Bazine, Appanoose and Sedgwick school districts.  

He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
