Norman G. Bowling, 89, Ottawa, Kan., died Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Ottawa Retirement Village.

The family plans to meet with friends 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, before proceeding to Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, for graveside services. Interment is planned for Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kan.

Norman G. Bowling, 89, Ottawa, Kan., died Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Ottawa Retirement Village.

He was born Norman Glenn Watkins Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1924, in Lawrence, Kan., and was adopted by Ernest and Viola (Reusch) Bowling.

Norman lived in Douglas County, Kan., as a youth and in Prestonville, Kan., until moving to Franklin County in 1946.

Norman attended Lone Elm Grade School and Lawrence High School.

He worked for Cloverleaf Creamery, later Bennett’s Creamery, from 1948 until 1962, and then 20 years for National Sign Company, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ottawa.

He was an avid gun collector and trader of antiques.

Norman was united in marriage with Shirley J. Sellers Sunday, June 20, 1943, in Prestonville, Kan. She preceded him in death May 28, 2008.

Survivors include his son, Gary Bowling, Ottawa; granddaughters, Jenny Jackson, Brandy Johnson, Crystal Soph and Ashea Finch; grandsons, Josh, Blaine, and Ryan Bowling and wife, Megan; great-grandson, Tyler Jackson; great-granddaughters, Emma Jane and Kate Renee Bowling; and two daughters-in-law, Eileen and Mary Beth Bowling.

Norman also was preceded in death by his two sons, Charles and Rex Bowling; parents, Ernest and Viola Bowling; sister, Phyllis Richardson; brother, LeRoy Watkins; and daughter-in-law, JuLee Bowling.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter through Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa KS 66067.
