Dorothea Mae Miller O’Neal, 92, passed away Aug. 18, 2013, in her sleep.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services. Her ashes are interred at Highland Cemetery.

Dot was born Sept. 26, 1920, in Junction City, Kan.

Along with her parents, Harold and Ethel Miller, and brother, Bob, she moved to Ottawa when she was in high school. She graduated from Ottawa High School in 1937 and Ottawa University in 1941, where she met her future husband, John E. O’Neal.

After living in Atlanta, Ga., Naperville, Ill., Plymouth, Mich., Birmingham, Ala., and Granbury, Texas, she returned to Ottawa in 2003.

Survivors include three children, John, Ventura, Calif., Mike, Austin, Texas, and Cate, Bellingham, Wash; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her son Steve passed away in 2000.

Dot will be remembered for her dry sense of humor, her grace and strength in the face of adversity, her delicious cooking, and the perfect Christmas family reunions that she staged for so many years.

Dot’s family wishes to express their gratitude to Tammy and Scott of Midland Hospice, the staff at Ottawa Retirement Village, and Eloise, Marilyn, and Donna for the care, understanding and love they extended to Dot during her later years in Ottawa.
