Frank E. Mance, 88, Ottawa, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at his home.

Graveside funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. today, Sept. 26, 2013, at Peoria Cemetery, Peoria, Kan.

He was born Dec. 4, 1924, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Frank and Emma Mance.

He graduated from Wyandotte High School with the class of 1942. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country during World War II as a Higgins Boat driver during the Normandy invasion and the invasion of Sicily. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946.

From 1946 to 1976, Frank was an inspection supervisor for General Motors. Following his retirement after 35 years of service, Frank retired to the Ottawa area and then farmed for more than 30 years.

Frank was united in marriage with Shirley Walker Sept. 3, 1948. The just celebrated their 65th anniversary together.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Mance, of the home; two daughters, Janet Elaine Wiles and her husband, Stanley, Ottawa, and Sherri Lee Mance, Ottawa; three grandchildren, Frank Ray Wiles, Lawrence, Maria Michelle Hague, Ottawa, and Taylor Lee Wiles and his wife, Hayley, Lenexa; brother, Edward Mance and his wife, Geri, Leavenworth; great-granddaughter, Lavender Elaine Wiles; and several nieces and nephews.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Betty Jean Mance, Carol Mance and Emma Zybko.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, Ottawa through Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home P.O. Box 14, Ottawa KS 66067.
