Opal Marie Ogden, 80, Ottawa, died peacefully in her sleep Dec. 16, 2013, in the comfort of her home.

Mrs. Ogden has been cremated. Memorial services are to be scheduled later.

Born Feb. 20, 1933, in the early years of the Great Depression, to parents Charlie and Leah Magee, she started life in a farmhouse near Vici, Okla. Opal’s childhood was spent in Oklahoma; being raised with her close cousins, Sandra and Judy, who were like sisters to Opal.

Opal attended Oklahoma University, where she received her degree in home economics, and met her husband-to-be, Burton Ray Ogden. Opal and Burton were married in March 1959. Together, they started a family, and had four children, Shelli Rae, Michael Ray, Diane Marie and David Charles.

Opal lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Maine, and then moved back to Kansas. She left this world in her bed, with her family close to her in a farmhouse in Ottawa, Kan.

Survivors include her husband; children; grandchildren; and even some great-children. The youngest in her extended family never had the opportunity to know the kind, open-minded, happy and genuine person Opal Marie was. For those who did, she will be missed forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Douglas County Visiting Nurses through Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa KS 66067.
