Buried fire hydrants

3/4/2013

I was going to go out and dig the snow away from the fire hydrant in our neighborhood. Lo and behold, I could not even see where it was.

As a person who is slightly paranoid when it comes to fire, this has disturbed me quite a bit.

The city crews have done a wonderful job plowing the streets, but they unfortunately have buried the fire hydrants. I feel this is a very dangerous situation. As a 73-year-old woman, I don’t feel I should have to go dig the hydrant out anyway, but I would if I could find it.

Is there some way the hydrants could be marked with a high stick or something so we and the fire department would know where they are? And is there some way the city or fire department could see to it that the hydrants are not buried?
