CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL: Dog plays wingwoman

By AMY NEWMARK, Chicken Soup for the Soul | 4/14/2014

We’ve all heard stories of men using puppies to meet women. Well, women can play that game, too. In fact, one woman, Felice Prager, played it a little better than most with the help of her adult dog Tiffany. Tiffany helped Felice pick up her husband of more than 25 years, as Felice wrote in her story “Close Encounters of the Canine Kind,” published in one of our books on dogs.

Felice had a crush on her neighbor Sam, whom mutual friends had introduced her to. So, she devised a way they might bump into each other casually. Every evening, from her window, she kept an eye on the apartment building’s parking lot. When she saw Sam pull up, she and Tiffany would race to the elevator. But they always missed him. Later, Felice tried a different method: timing Tiffany’s walks with the hour she expected Sam would arrive. But that didn’t work either.

Then, one day, by coincidence, Sam stepped into the elevator as Felice and Tiffany were going down. They chatted until they reached the lobby, and then Tiffany played her role of wingwoman the only way she knew how. She grabbed onto Sam’s pant leg with her teeth and refused to let go. Sam couldn’t move, and, after a few moments, the elevator started climbing again. Felice and Sam talked some more, and then Sam accompanied Felice and Tiffany on a long walk. Felice and Sam got married a few months later, thanks, at least in part, to a very loyal and intuitive dog.
