Uneducated rhetoric

6/28/2013

I read Thursday’s edition of The Ottawa Herald and am really upset with the tone of the opinion piece written by Linda Brown who says she is a Christian person, the one who asks the Lord to hold her up a little longer. I think she has presented a bigger burden to the Lord than she might realize. I, too, am a person of faith, but I would never denigrate my president in such a public manner as this woman has just done.

Brown’s column shows an obvious disdain for the president of our country, which she has written about in the past. This is just one of the many columns this paper has published during the past several months written by various contributors who show such disdain for this president. I doubt this was the case when President Bush was in office, doing more financial damage to this country than we can hope to recover from for decades to come. Why not write about the damage this Congress, and most especially the Tea Party element, is doing to this country? The erosion of the rights of the people of this country is at an all-time high, or at least so during my lifetime.

I have had enough of the unresearched and uneducated rhetoric that appears on The Herald’s editorial page. These are not true editorials, but are muckraking of the highest ilk.

Possibly the staff of The Herald is not aware that there are quite a few Democratic moderates in this area who also are disgusted and chagrined by the tone of The Herald. I have spoken with quite a number of people in this area who refuse to subscribe to the paper. When we first moved to Ottawa 1 1/2 years ago, I felt that this was pretty decent newspaper, especially for the size of this community. There have been a number of changes made to the newspaper during this period of time, but sadly, not for the positive.

Thank you for your time.
