CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL: A cat proposes kitty key trade

By AMY NEWMARK, Chicken Soup for the Soul | 6/30/2014

As soon as Kimber Krochmal walked in the door, her cat Luna started running figure eights between her legs. “Hang on a second, sweetie,” Kimber said. “Let me put these bags down first and then I’ll pet you.” Kimber dropped her keys on a desk and then continued to the kitchen to unload.

As Kimber wrote in her story “Trade You,” published in our book about unbelievable things our cats do, as soon as she put down the keys Luna jumped up on the desk, swatted the keys to the floor and then leapt after them. She picked them up by the keychain and turned toward Kimber, who could only laugh. The huge set of keys hung in front of Luna’s legs “like a metal tutu.” Then, Luna was off. When Kimber caught up with her, she was playing with a toy mouse, and there was no sign of the keys.

With the help of her son, Kimber tore the house apart looking for them, but they never turned up, and eventually she was forced to replace the whole set.

A month later Kimber was working on a craft project when Luna became transfixed by a leather string. “No way,” she said. “If I let you out of my sight with this, it’ll be like my keys.” With that, Luna took off and returned a few minutes later with Kimber’s missing keys. Luna jumped up on the desk and gave Kimber a look that seemed to say, “Trade you.” Then she grabbed the string and ran off again.
