Eagle girls overwhelmed in loss

WINCHESTER — The Wellsville High School girls basketball team was looking to survive Friday to fight another day in Winchester.

Jeff County North overwhelmed the Eagles, 80-29.

WINCHESTER — The Wellsville High School girls basketball team was looking to survive Friday to fight another day in Winchester.

Jeff County North overwhelmed the Eagles, 80-29.

“We were outmatched,” Wellsville coach Brock Campbell said. “They were bigger, faster and stronger than we were. It was as good of competition we will see all year.”

Jeff County North dominated from the start taking a 47-15 halftime lead.

“We still played hard,” Campbell said. “We are fighting to get better. We have some games coming up that we will be competitive in.”

The coach said Wellsville did improve in some areas, which will pay dividends as the season progresses.

Moriah Kayhill paced the Eagles (1-5) with 11 points. Ashley Sparks had 10.

Wellsville plays Tuesday at home against Maranatha Academy.
