WF, CH boys stumble on road

OSAGE CITY — The West Franklin High School boys basketball team climbed within two points in the fourth quarter of Osage City Tuesday in Osage City.

The Falcons could not stop the Indians from making one final run. Osage City used that spurt to down West Franklin, 68-55. West Franklin cut the deficit to 49-47 with 5:30 left in the game.

“We just couldn’t finish the game,” West Franklin coach James Spencer said. “Osage City is really well coached and the took advantage of opportunities they had to make runs. We played a really hard game.”

Matt Gray and Will Duda led the Falcons with 16 points each. Tyler Rogers had 11.

West Franklin plays Friday at home against Lyndon.

West Franklin (55) — Streeter 3, Duda 16, Homer 7, Rogers 11, Gray 16, Altic 2.

Iola 49, Central Heights 33

IOLA — Central Heights is struggling offensively. The Vikings shot terrible in a 49-33 loss Tuesday to Iola in Iola.

“Mentally we need to be tougher and smarter,” Central Heights coach Rusty Cannady said. “Right now, we are neither.

“Defensively, we played pretty good, not great, but good enough to give us a chance to succeed. But when the ball just won’t go in, it’s tough. We need to be more confident and positive with belief and trust in each other.

“You’ll be surprised what can happen if you put those together.”

Jordan Horstick paced the Vikings with 13 points.

Central Heights plays Friday at home against Anderson County.
