WF girls rebound from poor first quarter

OSAGE CITY — The West Franklin High School girls basketball team rebounded from a poor start Tuesday in Osage City.

The Falcons fell behind 11-2 after the first quarter then dominated the rest of the game.

OSAGE CITY — The West Franklin High School girls basketball team rebounded from a poor start Tuesday in Osage City.

The Falcons fell behind 11-2 after the first quarter then dominated the rest of the game.

West Franklin outscored the Indians 17-3 in  the fourth quarter to post a 39-30 victory.

The Falcons were behind 24-20 heading into the fourth quarter.

“We kept attacking,” West Franklin coach Kyle Conley said. “They played passionate. It was a physical game.”

The difference came at the free-throw line. West Franklin hit 19 of 28 attempts, while Osage City went 10 of 27.

The Falcons were 13 of 18 from the line in the fourth quarter.

The Falcons had nine steals and five blocks.

Bailey Shaffer paced the Falcons with 14 points. She was 8 of 10 from the line.

Macy Flory led West Franklin with 10 rebounds.

West Franklin plays Friday at home against Lyndon.

West Franklin (39) — Reed 5, Steele 2, Shaffer 14, Whittington 4, Flory 6, Yelland 2, Ryan 6.

Iola 37, Central Heights 30

IOLA — It was a tough second half for Central Heights Tuesday in a 39-30 loss to Iola in Iola. The Vikings could not find the range with just two field goals in the second half.

Central Heights mustered 12 points in the second half after snaring an 18-14 halftime lead.

“We started the game well,” Central Heights coach Scott Lane said. “We defended well and shot the ball pretty well then right before half we let them back in the game.

“In the second half, the rim was not kind to us and we could not get any shots to fall. We have some things to clean up at practice this week.”

Kenzie Hayward led the Vikings with 10 points. Brianna Erhart finished with nine.

Central Heights plays Friday at home against Anderson County.

Central Heights (30) — Erhart 9, Kraus 4, Schaefer 1, Meyer 6, Hayward 10.
