Fouls add up for Central Heights girls

PLEASANTON — The fouls added up quickly against the Central Heights High School girls basketball team Tuesday in the first round of the Pleasanton Tournament.

Jayhawk-Linn took advantage of the Vikings’ plight and defeated Central Heights 47-42.

Central Heights led 10-2 early.

“Then we got in foul trouble early and that really changed what we do,” Central Heights coach Scott Lane said. “I thought offensively we were OK, but we did a poor job on the glass.

“We have to do a better job of not fouling and we have to be smarter with the basketball.”

Kenzie Hayward paced the Vikings with 11 points. Sydney Meyer tossed in 10.

Central Heights plays 5:30 p.m. today against Pleasanton.

EMPORIA — Top-seeded Council Grove defeated No. 8 West Franklin, 63-17, Tuesday in the first round of the Flint Hills Shootout in Emporia.

West Franklin plays 3 p.m. Friday against Mission Valley.
