Wellsville boys take third

BALDWIN CITY — Wellsville High School boys basketball coach Thatcher Decker said after Friday’s gut-wrenching loss to Augusta that the Eagles would be fired up for Saturday’s third-place game in the Baldwin Invitational at Baldwin City.

He was right. The Eagles dominated Bonner Springs, 67-40. Wellsville outscored Bonner Springs in every quarter.

Wellsville raced to a 30-13 halftime lead and outscored Bonner Springs, 37-27, in the second half.

Carter Mann paced the Eagles with 19 points. Cole Silsby, who hit 12 of 15 free throws, had 17.

Wellsville (9-3) plays 7 p.m. Friday at Anderson County.

Bonner Springs (40) — McGee 10, Dotson 5, Jackson 8, McGee 3, Freese 2, Vitt 8, Roark 4.

Wellsville (67) — Breithaupt 2, Silsby 17, Kearney 9, Mann 19, Meyer 8, Klamm 8, Thuro 4.

Lyndon 59, West Franklin 46

EMPORIA — West Franklin never recovered from a slow start Saturday in the third-place game of the Flint Hills Shootout at Emporia. Lyndon shot out to a 18-6 lead and cruised to a 59-46 win over the Falcons.

Lyndon led 48-27 after the third quarter.

Matt Gray led the Falcons with 23 points.

West Franklin plays today at home against Central Heights.
