Bad third quarter dooms Eagle girls

WELLSVILLE — The third quarter doomed the Wellsville High School girls basketball team Saturday in the fifth place game of the Top Gun Tournament in Wellsville.

Wellsville scored just three points in the quarter and could not recover in a 47-39 loss to Anderson County.

Wellsville scored just three points in the quarter and could not recover in a 47-39 loss to Anderson County.

The Eagles were within 26-23 at halftime, but the Bulldogs extended the lead to 37-26 at the end of the third quarter.

Ashley Sparks paced the Eagles with 12 points. Moriah Kayhill finished with 10 points.

Emily Newhouse was selected to the all-tournament team.

Wellsville is scheduled to play today at Iola and Friday at home against Central Heights.

Wellsville (39) — Geist 7, Newhouse 6, Kayhill 10, Graniewski 2, Patton 2, Sparks 12.
