FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Ottawa University softball team split games Saturday in its season opener in Fayetteville, Ark.

The Lady Braves fell 7-4 to Evangel in the first game. Ottawa rebounded for a 12-5 win over Ecclesia.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Ottawa University softball team split games Saturday in its season opener in Fayetteville, Ark.

The Lady Braves fell 7-4 to Evangel in the first game. Ottawa rebounded for a 12-5 win over Ecclesia.

In the opener, Ottawa scored two runs in the top of the second inning. The Crusaders scored two in the third. Ottawa scored a run in the top of the fifth for a 3-2 lead.

Evangel scored twice in the fifth and three in the sixth for a 7-3 lead.

Lydia Budke smashed a solo home run in the seventh. She also had a double. Amber Harris also had two hits.

Freshman Molli Morgan pitched five innings.

Ottawa had its offense cranked up in the win over Ecclesia. The Lady Braves rallied from a 5-0 hole with 12 unanswered runs.

Catherine Wallace hit a solo home run in the third. Ottawa added seven runs as Mikayla Oliphant smashed a three-run home run in the fourth.

Ottawa scored two runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Savannah Taylor nailed a home run in the sixth.

McKenzie Sokolaski led the Lady Braves with three hits and scored two runs. Oliphant had three RBIs.

Paige Williams picked up the victory.

Ottawa (1-1) is scheduled to play 1 p.m. today at home in a doubleheader against Oklahoma Wesleyan.
