Weidl defends league crown

LOUISBURG — Ottawa High School senior Dalton Weidl is a two-time league wrestling champion.

He defended his title to win the 195-pound division Friday and Saturday in the Frontier League Tournament at Louisburg. Ottawa went 3-3 in the dual format to finish fourth behind Baldwin, Spring Hill and Paola.

Ottawa defeated Eudora, 66-15; De Soto, 42-35, and Louisburg, 48-33. The Cyclones fell to Paola, 42-21; Baldwin, 53-21, and Spring Hill, 61-18.

Seven Cyclones finished in the top four. Drew Nutt (120) took second.

Brandin Bell (138), Sam Carver (145) and Caleb Parenti (170) were third. Blaine Ray (152) and Brayden Streeter (160) were fourth.

Ottawa wrestles Friday and Saturday in the 4A regional at Burlington. The top four in each weight class advance to state.
