WF Falcons fall to Wildcat squads

BURLINGTON — The West Franklin High School basketball teams saw their seasons come to an end Wednesday in first round 3A sub-state games in Burlington.

The Falcons boys fell 64-58 to the Wildcats. The top-ranked Burlington girls topped the Falcons 84-17.

The Falcons boys fell 64-58 to the Wildcats. The top-ranked Burlington girls topped the Falcons 84-17.

The boys gave Burlington a battle from start to finish. West Franklin led 46-43 after three quarters, but could not close it out.

Burlington scored 21 points in the fourth quarter.

“They executed offensively really well,” Falcons coach James Spencer said. “We had to foul at the end.”

West Franklin fell behind 17-12 after the first quarter, but led 33-32 at halftime.

Spencer said the Falcons gave it everything they had.

Matt Gray paced West Franklin with 20 points. Brady Geist had 10. Owen Reed finished with nine.

The West Franklin boys finished at 11-9.

Burlington (64) — Redding 14, Mahoney 2, Meyer 2, Shell 21, Ratzlaff 11, Beyer 10, Sheppers 4.

West Franklin (58) — Gray 20, Geist 10, Reed 9, Eck 2, Duda 8, Rogers 4, Altic 1, Walters 4.

GIRLS

West Franklin could not match up with the undefeated Wildcats. The game slipped away quickly in the second quarter and Burlington had a big third quarter.

The Falcons lose one senior in Sierra Miller.

West Franklin finished at 2-18.

Burlington (84) — Gillman 16, Sadel 6, Pearson 5, Norton 2, Emling 2, Bluma 12, Dorcas 9, Cole 2, O’Conner 8, Wagner 4, Stewart 18.

West Franklin (17) — Ecord 2, Whittington 4, Flory 2, Yelland 6, Miller 3.
