Eagles capture championship

IOLA — The Wellsville High School boys basketball team clinched the Pioneer League championship Thursday with a 53-45 win over Iola in Iola.

The Eagles (17-3) is the third seed in their sub-state and plays 7 p.m. Monday against West Franklin.

Wellsville edged the Falcons earlier this season in Pomona.

Wellsville outscored Iola 17-9 in the fourth quarter.

Senior Carter Mann paced the Eagles with 18 points. Junior point guard Cole Silsby tossed in 16.

Iola (45) — Latta 5, Wallace 11, McIntosh 3, Macha 5, Kauth 10, Powelson 13.

Wellsville (53) — Breithaupt 4, Silsby 16, Kearney 9, Mann 18, Klamm 6.

WEST FRANKLIN 59, MARMATON VALLEY 25

MORAN — West Franklin closed the regular season Thursday with an easy 59-25 win over Marmaton Valley. The Falcons moved to 10-10.
