Falcon girls set record for wins

MORAN — The West Franklin High School girls put together the best season in school history. The Falcons won their 10th game Thursday with a 47-19 win over Marmaton Valley in Moran.

West Franklin (10-10) will have a home sub-state game for the first time in school history. It will be 7 p.m. Tuesday against Humboldt.

The Falcons pressure defense had Marmaton Valley on its heels.

“We got the press going,” West Franklin coach Kyle Conley said. “We forced a lot of turnovers. We got a lot of baskets in transition. We started knocking down shots.”

West Franklin led 28-7 at halftime and emptied the bench in the second half.

“We played a lot of kids,” Conley said. “We are prepped and ready for sub-state.”

Macy Flory paced the Falcons with 16 points. Bailey Whittington had 10.

Marmaton Valley (19) — Ensminger 7, Storrer 6, Drake 6.

West Franklin (47) — Reed 2, Morrison 2, Steele 4, Bailey Shaffer 6, Ecord 2, Whittington 10, Brittany Shaffer 1, Flory 16, Yelland 2, Ryan 2.

IOLA 42, WELLSVILLE 33

IOLA — Wellsville closed the regular season Thursday with a 42-33 loss to Iola in Iola.

The Eagles (8-12) play 7 p.m. Tuesday at home against Central Heights in the first round of sub-state.
