OU softball splits with Washburn

TOPEKA — The Ottawa University softball team Wednesday split with NCAA Division II Washburn University in Topeka.

Ottawa won the opener, 13-7 but fell 8-6 in the nightcap. Ottawa (4-6) won a slugfest in the opener. The Lady Braves outhit Washburn, 14-9.

Ottawa won the opener, 13-7 but fell 8-6 in the nightcap. Ottawa (4-6) won a slugfest in the opener. The Lady Braves outhit Washburn, 14-9.

Savannah Taylor paced the Lady Braves with three home runs and six RBIs. Mikayla Oliphant and Mary Constant had two RBIs each.

Gabby Markham had six strikeouts in going the distance for the victory.

In the second game, Lydia Budke, Darin Lewis and Taylor had two hits each to pace the Lady Braves. Both teams had nine hits in the nightcap.

Constant ripped a home run and had two RBIs. Oliphant drove home three runs.

Freshman Molli Morgan pitched 4 2/3 innings in the loss. Paige Williams tossed 1 1/3 innings.

Today’s home doubleheader was canceled.
