POMONA — The West Franklin High School girls basketball team keeps adding a few more chapters to the best season in school history.

The Falcons won their first postseason game in school history Tuesday with a 49-35 win over Humboldt in Pomona.

It was the first postseason home game in school history and the program-best 11th win of the season.

The girls played in front of a packed gym.

West Franklin advances to 6 p.m. Friday’s semifinals in Wellsville against Jayhawk-Linn, which topped Osage City, 29-21.

It was not the best played game, but both teams went at it hard.

Humboldt’s aggressiveness forced a lot of West Franklin fouls.

“We did a good job of dealing with foul trouble,” West Franklin coach Kyle Conley said. “We depended on our bench quite a bit.

“Fallon Dyer came up huge off the bench. The seniors stepped up.”

Seniors Emily Reed (14) and McKenzie Steele (10) combined for 24 points. West Franklin displayed a bit of grit.

“Humboldt attacked non-stop,” Conley said. “It was game of who wanted it more. It was not a good shooting night. They did what they needed to do to win the game.”

Macy Flory, who had a team-best 15 points, controlled the game with her defense and rebounding.

“We did a good job of limiting their second-chance points,” Conley said.

West Franklin led 18-13 at halftime. The Falcons upped the advantage to double digits in the third quarter.

West Franklin led 30-19 at the end of the third.
