Wellsville boys advance to finals

WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville High School boys advanced to the sub-state championship game for the second time in three seasons.

The Eagles overwhelmed Humboldt, 60-41, in Thursday’s semifinals at Wellsville.

The Eagles overwhelmed Humboldt, 60-41, in Thursday’s semifinals at Wellsville.

The Eagles play 7:30 p.m. today against Osage City, upset winners over previously undefeated Council Grove.

Wellsville started to take control in the second quarter.

Guard Carter Mann sparked the offense as the senior tossed in 12 of his game-high 22 points in the quarter.

The Eagles led 30-22 at halftime and put the game away with an 18-5 advantage in the third quarter.

Wellsville pushed the lead to 48-27 at the end of the third quarter.

It was a pair of 18-3 teams battling it out in the semifinals.

Wellsville improved to 19-3 and takes on a 18-4 Osage City squad.

The Indians lost twice earlier to Council Grove and once to Paola, which is a 4A squad.

Wellsville enters the sub-state final with 11 straight wins and 12 victories in the past 13 games.

Cole Silsby spearheaded Wellsville’s first half scoring with 12 of his 15 points in the first 16 minutes.
