Braves split DH with Bethany

LINDSBORG — The Ottawa University baseball opened conference play Friday with a split against Bethany in Lindsborg.

The Braves won the nightcap 3-2 after falling 8-2 in the opener.

LINDSBORG — The Ottawa University baseball opened conference play Friday with a split against Bethany in Lindsborg.

The Braves won the nightcap 3-2 after falling 8-2 in the opener.

Ottawa was held to four hits in the loss. Ottawa scored single runs in the second and third innings for a 2-0 lead. Lindsborg scored eight unanswered runs.

Dustin Balmer had two hits and an RBI. Kaylem Quinn hit a solo home run.

The nightcap was a pitcher’s duel. Both teams used three pitchers. Each team had nine hits.

Ottawa scored one in the third and two in the fifth. Quinn had a two-run triple in the fifth inning. Balmer had three hits and an RBI.

Cole Meeks went five innings to earn the victory. He gave up five hits. Solomon Haberkost got the final out for the save.

Ottawa and Bethany play again 1 p.m. today in Ottawa.
