OU softball off to 0-2 start in KCAC

SALINA — The Ottawa University softball team got the conference season off to a slow start. The Lady Braves were swept Thursday by Kansas Wesleyan in Salina.

Ottawa lost 3-0 and 7-2. Kansas Wesleyan scored three runs in the second inning and kept Ottawa scoreless to win the opener.

Ottawa lost 3-0 and 7-2. Kansas Wesleyan scored three runs in the second inning and kept Ottawa scoreless to win the opener.

The Lady Braves had eight hits, committed three errors, and left seven runners on base.

Catherine Wallace and Darin Lewis led Ottawa with two hits apiece. Hailie Ray pitched in 5 2/3 innings.

Kansas Wesleyan jumped on Ottawa early to take a 5-0 lead after three innings.

Wallace smashed a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to three, 5-2. Becca Dunlop, Wallace, and Mikayla Oliphant each had a hit for the Lady Braves.

Morgan Shramek started and pitched in 2 2/3 innings. Morgan Beckler tossed 3 1/3 innings and allowed three hits.

Ottawa (13-8, 0-2) plays 1 p.m. today at home against Sterling.
