Braves baseball loses 3 of 4 to Saint Mary

The Ottawa University baseball team lost three of four games played this weekend to Saint Mary.

Ottawa split with the Spires Friday, winning the opener, 9-0 and falling 5-4 in the nightcap in Leavenworth.

Ottawa split with the Spires Friday, winning the opener, 9-0 and falling 5-4 in the nightcap in Leavenworth.

Ottawa was swept Saturday in Ottawa. The Spires won 15-2 and 15-7.

The Braves used a gem by senior Jacob Loucks to win Friday’s opener. He tossed a three-hitter and had four strikeouts.

Ottawa scored a run early on Nick Deichler’s RBI double. The Braves exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning.

Aaron Marshall hit a three-run home run, his ninth of the season.

Marshall and Zach Ostergard led Ottawa with two hits apiece and Marshall had a game-high three RBIs.

The nightcap was a heartbreaker. Saint Mary scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a come-from-behind walk-off victory.

Ottawa controlled the game for 6 1/2 innings. Ottawa led 2-0 after the first inning.

Deichler’s sacrifice fly to center scored Zach Ostergard. Deichler’s second sacrifice fly gave Ottawa a 3-0 lead in the third inning.

Saint Mary scored two in the fourth to make it 3-2. Ottawa plated one in the fifth on Marshall’s RBI double.

Dane Raber and Marshall led Ottawa with two hits each.

In Saturday’s opener, Ottawa (12-22) scored two in the third to make it 3-2. The Spires then scored 12 unanswered runs for the run-rule victory.

Ottawa rallied from a 6-0 deficit to tie the nightcap at 6-6, but Saint Mary scored nine runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Marshall went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to pace the Braves.
