Lady Braves roll past Saint Mary

LEAVENWORTH — The Ottawa University softball team completed its second straight sweep Friday with wins over Saint Mary in Leavenworth.

Ottawa rolled to 14-4 and 14-1 victories. Both games went five innings because of the run rule.

The Lady Braves took control of both games early. Ottawa led the opener 2-0 after the first inning. Alyssa Miller started the rally with an infield single.

Lydia Budke’s double to center scored Miller and Ottawa led 1-0.

Catherine Wallace then doubled to left, scoring Budke, giving the Lady Braves a 2-0 lead.

Ottawa increased its lead to 6-0 with four runs in the top of the second inning. After a scoreless third inning, the Lady Braves offense exploded for eight runs, taking a 14-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Saint Mary scored one run in the fourth inning and three in the fifth inning.

Miller went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Budke had three hits, driving in four and scoring three.

Pitcher Gabby Markham picked up her eighth victory with seven strikeouts and allowing one hit.

Ottawa scored five runs in the first inning of the nightcap. Ottawa scored four in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Budke went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Miller had two hits, scoring three runs. Markham pitched three innings for her ninth win.
