Eagle softball tops Buffs

he two league rivals went toe-to-toe Tuesday in LaCygne with Wellsville coming out on top.

The Eagles won 9-5 and 6-1.

“Prairie View is one of our league rivals,” Wellsville coach Chris Rose said. “It has been tough competition for us.”

The Eagles used their bats and the pitching of Raegan Beckley in the first game. Ashley Sparks went 4-for-4 with 6 RBIs, which included a double and a home run.

Justine Dougan and Holly Geist had two hits each.

The second game was a nail-biter from start to finish. The Eagles tied the game 1-1 with a run in the fifth. It was still tied at 1-1 in the seventh inning when the Eagles scored five runs.

Moriah Kayhill started the rally as she walked and stole a base. Beckley had two RBIs in the inning.

“It was an incredibly hard-fought game,” Rose said. “It was a grind-it-out game.”

Kaylynn Peacock was the winning pitcher. She also had three hits. Sparks and Beckley had two hits each.

Wellsville plays today at home against Baldwin.
