Central Heights sweeps two foes

The Central Heights High School softball team scored two sweeps in back-to-back days at home.

On Monday, the Vikings topped West Franklin, 8-6 and 6-0. On Tuesday, Central Heights defeated Osawatomie, 5-2 and 10-4.

On Monday, the Vikings topped West Franklin, 8-6 and 6-0. On Tuesday, Central Heights defeated Osawatomie, 5-2 and 10-4.

Senior pitcher Sam Stegner was the winning pitcher in three of the four games. The Independence Community College signee had 10 strikeouts in the 6-0 victory over West Franklin.

She finished with 12 strikeouts in the 5-2 win over Osawatomie. She had 10 strikeouts in the opener against the Falcons.

Kenzie Hayward came through with a big game in the 10-4 win over Osawatomie.

She was the winning pitcher. She had seven strikeouts. She reached base three times and had two singles.

In Monday’s opener, Central Heights scored three runs in the sixth inning to pull out the victory. Both teams had 12 hits.

Charley Fine led the Falcons with three hits. Shelbi Allen, Bailey Shaffer and Alexa Ryan had two hits each. Whitney Kraus had an RBI triple for the Vikings. She had three RBIs in the game.

Stegner had three hits in the nightcap win over the Falcons. Hallie Brockus had an RBI single. Central Heights had nine hits.

The Vikings broke open the game with four runs in the fifth inning.

Shaffer paced the Falcons with two hits. Allen had the other hit.

Central Heights’ Kirby Laird spearheaded the offense in the opener against Osawatomie. She had was on base twice, scored two runs and had an RBI.

Lindsey Folsom had two of Central Heights’ five hits in the game. Central Heights scored three runs in the fifth inning.

Central Heights jumped on Osawatomie in the nightcap with 10 runs in the first three innings. Osawatomie led 2-0 after the top of the first inning.

Freshman Katelyn Castleberry got things rolling with a two-run single in the first inning.

Central Heights broke the 2-2 tie with two in the second. Hayward stole home. Stegner had an RBI single.

The Vikings finished with eight hits by seven players.

Central Heights plays Tuesday at Prairie View.

West Franklin plays Friday at Northern Heights.
