LOUISBURG — The Wellsville High School softball team needed a big effort from everybody to post a win Thursday over Louisburg in Louisburg.

It did not happen. The Eagles fell 7-2 and 13-6.

“It was one of those nights,” Wellsville coach Chris Rose said. “What could go wrong, went wrong. We did not pitch well. We did not field well. We did not hit well. They took away our run game. They took away our small ball early.”

The Louisburg pitching was much faster and better than what Wellsville had been facing in recent games.

“We knew we would have to make an adjustment,” Rose said about facing the Louisburg pitchers. “We started hitting a little bit.”

Ashley Sparks ripped a triple. Rayne Right had an RBI triple in the opener as Wellsville pulled within 4-2 in the opener.

The second game saw Wellsville battle from start to finish. The Eagles were up 2-0 early on Justine Dougan’s 2-RBI single.

Louisburg scored seven runs with two outs in the fifth inning to break it open. Louisburg led 5-4 at the time and extended the lead to 12-4.

“Louisburg hit the ball extremely well,” Rose said. “It got away from us. It hit us fast. It got out of control.”

Moriah Kayhill had a two-run home run later in the nightcap.

“We hit the ball hard in the second game,” Rose said. “It was tough.”

Wellsville (8-2) plays Tuesday at home against Iola.
