Ottawa's Ferguson is 2-event KU Relays champ

Ottawa High School senior Kord Ferguson is a two-event Kansas Relays champion. Ferguson won the shot put title Saturday after finishing second a year ago.

He defended his discus championship on Friday. He won the shot put with a toss of 62 feet, 9 inches. His discus distance was 189-1.

Ferguson has the top-ranked distances in both events in the nation.

OHS senior Cory Peoples made his season debut in the shot put and took 11th at 52-0.5.

The Ottawa track teams compete Thursday at Bonner Springs.

West Franklin

West Franklin High School senior Josh Napper broke his own school record Thursday in the 200-meter race at the Northern Heights Invitational. He also won the 100 and placed second in the long jump to pace the Falcons.

The boys finished fourth out of 15 teams with 50 points. The girls had 12 points to take 11th.

Senior Alexis Yelland had personal-bests in the 1,600 and 3,200 races.      

“Our distance runners had an outstanding meet,” West Franklin coach Susan Zentz said. “Nearly every runner had a PR in his/her individual race.”
