OHS softball puts all facets together in sweep

SHAWNEE — Pitching, defense and a hitting will win a lot of softball games.

The Ottawa High School softball team had all three facets in gear Wednesday in a sweep of Miege in Shawnee.

The Ottawa High School softball team had all three facets in gear Wednesday in a sweep of Miege in Shawnee.

Ottawa won 9-5 and 9-1.

Senior Kendall Blanco tossed a gem in the opener. She had eight strikeouts in seven innings. She gave up seven hits and three walks.

Four players led the offense with two hits each. Kylie Foster and Courtney Clayton had three RBIs each.

Sophomore Shea Mesik tossed the nightcap. She was efficient, facing 29 hitters. She gave up four hits.

“Shea had great control and kept the ball down and let the defense work for her,” Ottawa coach Joe Serna said. “The defense turned two double plays.”

Sophomore Bayleigh Nelson had four hits and two RBIs.

Four others had two hits each.

Ottawa was coming off  two losses Tuesday to Gardner.

The Cyclones (4-6) play Tuesday at Eudora.

Game one

Kylie Foster: 2-4, HR, 3 RBIs, 2 runs.

Hannah Hedges: 2-4, sac, run,

Shea Mesik: 2-4, 2 runs, RBI, double,

Courtney Clayton: 2-4, run, double, 3 RBIs.

Ashaya Blevins: 1-2, 2 runs, double, hit by pitch.

Game two

Bayleigh Nelson: 4-5, run, double, 2 RBIs.

Kylie Foster: 2-4, run.

Hannah Hedges: 2-3, 2 runs, RBI.

Shea Mesik: 2-3, 2 runs, double, RBI.

Courtney Clayton: 1-4, run, double, RBI.

Amy Wilson: 1-4, RBI.

Tatum Knight: 2-4, run, RBI.

Corie Fischer: 1-3, run, double.
