OU tennis competes in KCAC

SALINA — Rain cut the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Individual Flights Tennis Tournament Saturday to doubles only in both the men and women in Salina.

It was the first time for the first-year women’s program and first time since 1993 for the men to participate in the conference tournament.

Ottawa men’s No. 1 doubles team of Jacob Brendemuehl and Chase Dippel finished fourth with a 1-2 mark. The Braves duo opened with an 8-3 win over Tabor’s David Simmet and Tyler Dort.

The pair fell 8-4 to Bethel and lost 8-4 in the third-place match to McPherson.

The two received KCAC honors. Brendemuehl was a second-team all-conference selection by a vote of the KCAC coaches.

Brendenmuehl finished the regular season with a record of 10-9 in doubles.

Dippel shared KCAC newcomer of the year with Bethel’s Logan Palenske.

Dippel’s singles mark in the regular season was 11-8. Dippel and  Brendemuehl finished their first collegiate season with a doubles record of 12-11.

Dippel also played for the men’s basketball team where he led the Braves in scoring this past season and earned first-team all-conference honors.

The No. 2 doubles team of Matthew Grom and Brenson Vile went 1-2 in the tourney.

The pair lost 9-7 to Kansas Wesleyan’s Leo Mendez and Fernando Soto, 9-7.

Ottawa lost 8-5 to Friends and nipped Tabor 9-8 (8-6) for seventh.

Ottawa’s No. 3 doubles team of Bradley Bleich and Tanner Lantz played in the fifth-place match against Tabor, but results were not available.

The Braves duo fell 8-1 to McPherson College’s Sean Dullaghan and Jordan Stewart. They defeated Southwestern, 8-6, to advance to the fifth-place match.

The Lady Braves’ No. 1 doubles team of Madeline Bellew and Danika Good went 1-2 to finish sixth.

The pair lost 8-6 to Bethany’s Kara Agamaite and Monica Chapman. They defeated Tabor 8-6.

Bellew and Good lost 8-4 Friends in the fifth-place match.

The No. 2 doubles team of Michelle Westerman and Ellen Agnew finished seventh.

The pair fell 8-4 to Bethany’s Kjerstyn Hansen and Olivia Fabrizius. They lost 8-5 to Friends and took seventh with a default victory over McPherson.

The No. 3 doubles tandem of Kimisha Peterson and Bekka Bailey finished third.

The pair downed Southwestern’s Hayle Fort and Tyler Harrell, 8-1. Peterson/Bailey lost 8-0 to Bethel and defeated Friends, 9-7, in the third-place match.

Both teams play in the KCAC Team Championships Thursday at the Riverside Tennis Complex in Wichita.

The Ottawa men’s team compiled a 2-5 mark in KCAC duals and 3-13 overall. The women were 2-5 in the KCAC and 6-8 overall.
