BURLINGAME — The Wellsville High School softball team had one of those nights where things were not smooth.

The Eagles made up for it with a solid offensive effort in a 9-7 win Thursday over Burlingame in Burlingame.

“We did not play our best ball,” Wellsville coach Chris Rose said. “We found a way to win. We made a lot of mistakes.”

Wellsville led 6-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning when the defense came unraveled.

“We gave up a couple of runs here or there,” Rose said. “We struggled with errors and wild pitches. We had errors compound themselves. We gave them seven runs.”

Kaylynn Peacock earned the victory and Raegan Beckley, who went the final 1 2/3 innings, received the save.

“I was not pleased with our focus,” Rose said. “We hit the ball hard right at girls. We left some runners stranded.”

Moriah Kayhill led the Eagles with three hits, including a two-run home run. She scored two runs.

Ashley Sparks, Peacock, Justine Dougan, Rayne Right, Tori Broers and Beckley had two hits each. Sparks had two RBIs.
