OU softball season ends in tourney

HUTCHINSON — The Ottawa University softball season ended Saturday with a 2-2 mark in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in Hutchinson.

Ottawa won its first two games over Tabor (9-3) and Friends (3-2) on Friday. Ottawa lost 3-2 to Bethany and 9-1 to Friends, the eventual winner.

Ottawa won its first two games over Tabor (9-3) and Friends (3-2) on Friday. Ottawa lost 3-2 to Bethany and 9-1 to Friends, the eventual winner.

Friends scored eight unanswered runs to open the game. Catherine Wallace and Darin Lewis each had a hit. Morgan Beckler pitched in 1 1/3 innings.

Against Bethany, Ottawa broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning on Amanda Martinsen’s home run, her second of the season. Bethany answered with two runs in the fourth.

Cady Blevins’ RBI single tied at 2-2 in the fifth. Bethany scored one in the sixth for the victory.

Morgan Shramek tossed six innings.

Morgan Beckler pitched Ottawa to Friday’s win over Friends. It was Ottawa’s first tourney win over Friends since 2010.

Ottawa (25-16) opened the tourney against Tabor. Ottawa led from start to finish. Ottawa put the game away with a four-run seventh inning. Mikayla Oliphant smashed a two-run home run, her fourth of the season.

Shramek picked up her 12th win of the season.

Alyssa Miller went 3-for-3. Oliphant, Lewis and Miller had two RBIs each.

Ottawa had seven players earn KCAC honors. Catherine Wallace, Blevins, Lydia Budke, Oliphant, Shramek and Becca Dunlop were second team all-KCAC selections. Martinsen was an honorable mention selection.

Blevins and Martinsen were three-time all-KCAC team members.

Shramek and Dunlop are two-time honorees.
