POMONA — The West Franklin High School softball team split four games last week. The Falcons swept Northern Heights, 19-12 and 17-2.

The Falcons lost 11-2 and 19-0 to Santa Fe Trail.

West Franklin’s offense got cranking against Northern Heights. Bailey Shaffer had five hits, including two doubles and five RBIs. Charley Fine, Alexis Yelland and Brittany Crump had four hits and two RBIs each.

“It was nice to see both our defense and our hitting come together,” Falcon coach Michelle Bowman said. “We started off a little shaky in the first game but were able to focus and get the win.”

Micayla Campfield and Sierra Jones combined for the win in the first game. Jones got the win in the nightcap.

The Falcons had trouble generating much against Santa Fe Trail.

“We need to learn to play consistently and with the same intensity we had during the Northern Heights doubleheader,” Bowman said.  Brittany Shaffer came in as a runner and played with a lot of determination and was aggressive getting herself into scoring position. It was unfortunate that we were unable to score.”

Fine had three hits and Brittany Shaffer had three stolen bases.
