OHS tennis qualifies 4 for state

TOPEKA — The Ottawa High School boys tennis team qualified two singles and a doubles team for the 4A state tournament, which will start Friday in Wichita.

The top six places in regional advance to state. Vince Sylvester topped Jon Kuczmarski in three sets for fifth place Monday in Topeka.

The top six places in regional advance to state. Vince Sylvester topped Jon Kuczmarski in three sets for fifth place Monday in Topeka.

Cale Paquette/Clint Lyman finished sixth in doubles. All are first-time state qualifiers.

Ottawa finished third as a team.

Singles

Jon Kuczmarski (sixth): def. Lewis, Bonner Springs, 6-1, 6-0; lost to Contreras, Atchison, 4-6, 7-6 (7-7), 10-5; def. Davis, Paola, 2-6, 6-0, 6-1; lost to Sylvester, Ottawa, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Vince Sylvester (fifth): def. Anderson, Atchison, 6-1, 6-0; lost to L. Zoller, De Soto, 6-3, 6-4; def. A. Zoller, De Soto, 6-3, 6-3; def. Kuczmarski, Ottawa, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Doubles

Cale Paquette/Clint Lyman (sixth): def. Haefele/Thomas, Paola, 6-0, 4-6, 10-6; lost to Federico/Beck, Hayden, 6-2, 6-0; def. Koehn/Martin, Spring Hill, 7-5, 6-4; lost to Gassman/Walker, Atchison, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.    

Caleb Parenti/Tomas Fuentealba: lost to Schneck/Kingele, Bonner Springs, 6-4, 6-3.
