Juniors lead Ottawa boys' run to third in league

LOUISBURG — A pair of juniors spearheaded the Ottawa High School boys track team Thursday to a third-place finish in the Frontier League track meet in Louisburg.

Baldwin won the team title with 134 points followed by Paola (128) and Ottawa (118).

Baldwin won the team title with 134 points followed by Paola (128) and Ottawa (118).

Kord Ferguson set two league marks in winning the shot put and discus events. Aaron Miller won the 100-, 200- and 400-meter races.

Ferguson continued his strong season by winning the shot put at 62 feet, 6 inches, breaking the old mark of 59-9.5 set by Ottawa’s Caleb Blakesley in 2005.

The junior went 179-5 to win the discus to snap Wellsville’s Josh Flett’s mark of 167-10 set in 2001.

Ottawa finished first, third (Mickey Jensen) and fourth (Cory Peoples) in the shot put.

Dallas Natt won the triple jump and finished second in the long jump. Brandin Bell was second in the javelin. Dalton Weidl was fifth and Peoples, seventh.

Ottawa competes Friday in the 4A regional in Baldwin City.
