Ferguson breaks mark in shot put

It was a record-setting day for the Cyclones Friday at the Shawnee Mission North Relays.

Ottawa High School senior Kord Ferguson set the meet record in winning the shot put and put an eye-popping number in the discus.

Senior Aaron Miller set a personal-best in taking fifth in the 800-meter race.

Senior Cory Peoples had his best-ever performance in shot put, finishing third.

The rest of the track teams competed in the Piper Invitational. Sharissa Daw finished second in the 3,200 and fifth in the 1,600. Senior Katie Carswell was second in the shot put and third in the javelin.

The boys were led by runner-up finishes from senior Brandin Bell in the javelin and Tanner Wright in the shot put.

Ottawa competes Thursday in the Frontier League meet in Baldwin.
