Prep golfers advance to state

Four area high school golfers will play in various state tournaments. State will be Monday.

Central Heights freshman Matt Percy won the Marion regional with a 74, which was one of the best scores by the state-qualifying golfers. He won the regional by 10 strokes.

Percy tees off 11 a.m. Monday at Seneca’s Spring Creek Golf Course.

Ottawa’s Austin Blaue and Anderson County’s Jack Rickabaugh and Spencer Walters qualified as individuals for the 4A state tourney. All three have made multiple state tourney appearances.

Rickabaugh and Walters have placed in the top 20 in past state tournaments.

Blaue was seventh medalist in the De Soto regional played at the Shawnee Golf County Club. He shot an 80. He led Ottawa to a third-place finish with a 344. The top two teams qualified for all their golfers for state.

Rickabaugh was fourth medalist with a 77. Walter took sixth with a 78.

Rickabaugh tees off at 9:50 a.m. at the Cherry Oaks Golf Course in Cheney. Walter’s group starts at 9:20 a.m. Blaue begins at 9:10 a.m.

Ottawa senior Jeff Doolittle was ninth medalist with an 83, just missing grabbing one of the five state-qualifying individual spots.

Parker Olmstead finished his freshman campaign by shooting an 85. Sophomore Quentin Blaue had a 96. Trey Rich shot a 103 and Hunter Peoples, 119.

West Franklin’s Brandon Kaub shot a 97 in the Marion regional.
