Cyclone golfers qualify for state

EMPORIA — The Ottawa High School boys golf team placed four in the top 14 Monday in the Burlington regional at Emporia.

Ottawa finished as the regional runner-up and qualified as a team for state for the first time since 2011. Ottawa shot a 349 to finish 13 strokes behind regional champion Iola. Ottawa was nine strokes ahead of third-place Paola.

Ottawa plays Tuesday at Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta.

Junior Quentin Blaue paced the Cyclones in fourth with an 84. Parker Olmstead was sixth with an 85. Trey Rich took 10th with an 88. Andrew Soph took 14th with a 92.

Patrick Conroy came in with a 95 and Isaac McCullough shot a 96.

Percy wins

Central Heights sophomore Matt Percy won his regional at Council Grove. He will play Tuesday in the 3A State Tournament at Cherry Oaks Golf Course in Cheney.

Percy finished 12th at state last year as a freshman.
