Veteran wrestling coach Randy Hinderliter will be a part of the new Ottawa University wrestling  staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

He will join head coach Kevin Andres and graduate assistant Brandy Green.

“I have thought for a few years that Ottawa University would be a great venue for wrestling,” Hinderliter said. “I feel that coach Andres is going to insist on running a top-notch program.”

Hinderliter has been involved with wrestling since 1988 when he formed the Wellsville Kid Matters.

He also was involved with the USA Wrestling-Kansas organization.

Hinderliter attended his first Silver College, a National Coaches Education Program (NCEP), in 1999 as part of the USA Wrestling. He has since instructed more than 100 bronze level courses and certified more than 3,000 wrestling coaches.

“I was able to watch coach Green during her competitive career and her efforts were always the best she could give,” Hinderliter said.

“The chance to be involved in the building of an outstanding program was an opportunity I could not pass up.”

Hinderliter was named National Instructor of the Year for USA Wrestling’s NCEP in 2009 and 2012.

Hinderliter was the Central Heights High School’s head wrestling coach from 2002 to 2014. He had 22 state qualifiers.

In 2004, Hinderliter was named USAW-KS Kid’s Person of the Year and in 2009 he was the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association’s Contributor of the Year.

In 2008, he was asked to help write the second edition of USAW’s Bronze Book and he received the USAW gold coaching certification.
