Ferguson tops New Mexico field

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Ottawa High School senior Kord Ferguson won shot put and discus events Saturday in the Great Southwest Track and Field Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The meet was by invitation only and it matched the best high school prospects in each event.

The meet was by invitation only and it matched the best high school prospects in each event.

Ferguson, who owns the top throws in the nation in both events, tossed the shot put 63 feet, 7 inches.

His winning toss in the discus was 196-2.

Ferguson last week defended his state titles in the events and set state meet records in both.

Ferguson will be a freshman this fall for the Wichita State University track and field squad.
