Ottawa Legion lights up scoreboard

WATHENA — The Ottawa American Legion AA baseball squad put together its best offensive output of the season Wednesday in the first round of the State AA Tournament in Wathena.

Ottawa pounded out 11 hits, including two home runs, in a 16-0 victory over Ellis. The game went four innings because of the run rule.

Ottawa (25-11) plays Fort Scott 8:30 p.m. Thursday in an winner's bracket game.

Connor Stepp tossed a one-hitter with five strikeouts. Ellis had an infield single in the first inning.

Ottawa broke the game open with 11 runs in the second inning. Ottawa had five hits in the uprising. Ellis helped with three errors, three walks and hit a batter.

Alex Stepp smashed a grand slam home run in the second inning. Connor Stepp had a two-run single.

Greyson LaPlant got Ottawa rolling in the first inning with a two-run home run, his first of the season.

Ottawa added three runs in the fourth inning.
