Ottawa advances in state Legion tourney

WATHENA — The Ottawa Legion AA squad continued its torrid hitting with an 11-3 five inning win Friday night over Larned in the Legion AA State Tournament in Wathena.

WATHENA — The Ottawa Legion AA squad continued its torrid hitting with an 11-3 five inning win Friday night over Larned in the Legion AA State Tournament in Wathena.

Ottawa (27-12) moves into the semifinals at noon today against Concordia, which lost 6-2 to Fort Scott. The winner advances to the state championship game at 2:30 p.m. against Fort Scott.

Ottawa's offense produced six runs on four hits in the first inning. Ottawa added three in the third on two hits and two more in the fourth inning.

Hayden Yancey was the winning pitcher. He went four innings, giving up three runs on six hits and had six strikeouts.

Brock Huddlestun made his Legion AA pitching debut with a clean fifth inning. He had three strikeouts.

Greyson LaPlant led the offense with two hits and three RBIs. Jordan Morton got on base all four times and scored twice. Blaine Ray had a 2-RBI single in the first inning. Luke Snider reached base three times and scored two runs.
