Garrard wins OU Road race

Ottawa University alum and current William Jewell cross-country coach Justin Garrard won Saturday’s OU Road Race.

The race had more than 90 participants. The race is a fundraiser for the cross-country teams.

The race had more than 90 participants. The race is a fundraiser for the cross-country teams.

Garrard, a former All-American for the the Braves won the 3.1-kilometer race in 15 minutes, 24 seconds. OU men’s runners Jeo Mendez was second at 15:57 and Carl Carlson, third, 16:50.

The women’s winner was two-time NAIA National Championship qualifier Chelsea Fullerton. She finished with a time of 20:00. Freshman Hannah Jaloma was the second at 20:25. Freshman Jordan Calderwood was the third at 20:32.

Ottawa competes Sept. 20 in Des Moines, Iowa, at the Grand View meet.
