OLATHE — The Ottawa High School cross-country teams competed against the larger schools Saturday in the Olathe North Invitational at Lone Elm Park.

The boys finished fifth, beating Olathe Northwest, Gardner, Piper and Harmon. The girls took seventh.

“Both teams competed much harder than in previous years,” Ottawa coach Chris Kornhaus. “They did not allow themselves to be intimidated.”

Sharissa Daw led the girls, medaling in 15th place. Kennadee Huskey and Jessie Winsky both ran personal records.

Sam White led the boys team, followed by Brandon Yates and Daniel White. All three medaled. In all, six boys ran personal records in the race.

“I was very pleased with the effort of the kids, Kornhaus said. “We have areas of needed improvement but I like the fact that they did not shy away from the bigger schools.”
