Lady Braves soccer ties Baker

The Ottawa University women’s soccer team tied nationally-ranked Baker University Tuesday at Peoples Bank Field.

The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie. Ottawa scored first at the 3:12 mark of the first half. Morgan Trupp put in a shot from 20 yards out. The Ottawa defense held the Baker offense in check and Ottawa had a 1-0 lead at the half.

The Wildcats tied the game in the second half at the 85:29 mark on a corner kick by Shelby Schiraldi. Ashley Mauck headed the ball into the net. Neither team scored in the two overtime periods.

Ottawa had just one shot attempt in the two overtimes, while Baker had three in each overtime period.

Ottawa keeper Samantha Gitmed had five saves. Trupp and Kallie Bindner led Ottawa with three shots apiece. Angelica Tapia had the other shot.

Baker had a 18-7 lead in shots and a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.

The Lady Braves (3-4-1) plays 6 p.m. Tuesday in Marshall, Mo. against Missouri Valley College.

Braves fall

The Ottawa men’s soccer team lost 4-0 to No. 25 Baker. The Wildcats led 1-0 at halftime and dominated the second half with three goals.

Ottawa had a chance to tie the match late in the first half, but Baker keeper Matt Bickley made the save.

Baker had a 17-6 lead in shots and a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal. Ottawa keeper Drinnan Sante had two saves.

The Braves (2-6-0) play 8 p.m. Tuesday at Missouri Valley.
