Wellsville sweeps league CC races

Wellsville High School cross-country teams had two individual league champions for the first time in school history Thursday at the Pioneer League races at Central Heights.

Lauren McDaniel won the girls race and is the first league champion for the girls since Emily Bloss in 1993. She also moves up to No. 2 all-time with her time of 16 minutes, 37.8 seconds.

Chase Bouse took the boys title and moved up to No. 8 in the school rankings at 16:52.

The Wellsville boys finished third with 80 points, while the girls were second with 58. The eighth grade boys and seventh grade girls were league champs.

Central Heights boys were sixth with 132 points. They were led by Dillon Welch in 10th.

West Franklin

The West Franklin High School cross-country teams had four runners place in the top 13 Thursday at the Flint Hills League race at Northern Heights.

“Having four high school runners receive all-league recognition was very exciting,” Falcon coach Tara Huggard said. “We also had several miss medaling by just a few places.

“The team as a whole is really starting to peak and run some great times.

“Hopefully this will carry over to next week. They have been working hard all year with one goal in mind, state, and hopefully we can continue what we started today.”

Isaiah Messick finished seventh in the boys race. Brett Whittington was 13th.

Alexis Yelland led the girls in seventh. Autumn Holloway was 11th.

The West Franklin girls finished third as a team.
